Phyllis is proud that Her Term, a Georgia-based initiative of progressive women, is supporting her in the 2018 election for Georgia State Senate District 17.
As the organization outlines on its website, “Her Term is a collaboration of women and allies who are passionate about the character and impact of female leadership. Their experience across the political spectrum makes them uniquely equipped to recognize potential leaders, find the right role to match their capabilities, and provide them with the resources to run for office – and win.”
“It is no longer okay to rank 48 out of 50 States. In Georgia, no women currently hold any of the 13 statewide offices and all but one of the 16 U.S. representatives are men. No woman has ever been elected to the U.S. Senate or served as Governor of Georgia. Women comprise 26% of the state house, which is average for the U.S., but not good enough for us.”
“Women leaders are highly effective and provide needed perspective. Electing more will better utilize the best and brightest minds to develop effective policy, foster collaboration across party lines, and improve decisions about laws that impact all of us, every day. When we elevate women to higher office, we elevate our society as a whole to become more just, balanced and democratic.”
“Our goal is to see more women take on critical elected roles – and to see every branch of our government transformed by equitable representation… Working with local and state partners, community leaders and activists, we find qualified, progressive women already leading in their communities.”
